Louisiana State University
|When it comes to great football traditions, Louisiana State University is certainly no stranger to them. In fact, this is a university that has a great deal of history and quite an impressive record, both with regard to its football program and elsewhere. The truth is, this college that was first formed in 1853 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana is now one of the most respected colleges in the United States. The current campus was dedicated in 1926 and what was originally known as the Louisiana State Seminary of Learning and Military Academy became Louisiana State University. Today, it is the flagship university in the state, as well as the largest university in the state itself.
While excellence in the classroom is something that LSU prides itself on, it is equally proud of its excellence on the football field. The truth is, there are relatively few programs in the nation that are as talented. Over the years, this is a football team that has experienced a lot of growth and overcome a lot of hurdles, not the least of which includes a series of coaching changes that might have devastated many lesser programs. However, it seems only to make this one stronger. Known as the Fighting Tigers and famous for having a live Bengal tiger as a mascot, this is a team that has accumulated three national championships, in 1958, 2003 and 2007. Coached by Les Miles, this is a team that is poised to carry excellence well into the future.
The LSU football program is indeed accustomed to a high level of success. It is the 11th most winning football program in history out of all the colleges in the United States. This alone is something to be proud of. Add to that 47 bowl game appearances and eight division titles, and it quickly becomes easy to understand why so many people have a desire to play at this particular university. Because of its outstanding reputation, LSU has the opportunity to capitalize on finding the most talented individuals. As such, those who already have the greatest degree of natural ability are frequently recruited. Officials at the university then hone that talent into something that is truly exceptional. This makes them a force to be reckoned with on any given weekend, even when they are up against some of the most incredible teams in the nation.
Many people are proud to call LSU their college home. In fact, the university has seen a number of key graduates throughout its storied history. It only stands to reason that the same college that was attended by people like Lieutenant General Claire Chennault, the commander of the Flying Tigers in World War II, Maxime Faget, who developed rockets for space and legendary basketball player Shaquille O’Neal would also graduate such outstanding football players as Glenn Dorsey, Patrick Peterson and Rudy Niswanger. Even more astonishing, 2015 saw no less than 40 active players in the NFL who were all graduates from the LSU football program. This is more than any other football program in the country.
When you stop and consider everything that this university has managed to accomplish, it is almost mind-boggling. It quickly becomes clear that this is a university that will accept nothing but the best from the individuals who attend it. Perhaps that is one reason why it has managed to enjoy such a high level of success over the years. It seems to attract individuals who already have an enormously high desire to succeed in whatever they have chosen for their life’s work. This is demonstrated both in the classroom and on the football field with the level of consistency that is very rarely seen in any capacity.
When all things are considered, it is easy to understand why there are so many individuals that have a desire to attend Louisiana State University. It is a place where they can experience and be a part of something greater than themselves. It allows them to know what it really feels like to be part of something that is excellent in every way possible. For this reason alone, many people come to the decision to attend this university and as such, the university itself is able to benefit by attracting the best individuals from around the country. This is demonstrated in every football game and in virtually every other activity that is associated with Louisiana State University.
