Arkansas
State's Athletic Program
Arkansas State University fields 15 sports seven for men and eight for
women at the NCAA's highest level - Division I. ASU's football program
competes in Division I-A. ASU administrators added women's soccer in
2000, making it eight
 women's sports and seven men's sports competing at
the NCAA's highest level.
Athletes from Arkansas State University have won Olympic medals,
participated in Super Bowls, claimed national championships, competed in
the leagues of professional sports, set world records and brought
national and international acclaim to ASU and the state of Arkansas.
ASU's total sports program is strong and balanced as proven by winning
the Commissioner's Cup of the Sun Belt Conference in 1998, the coveted
symbol of the best overall athletic program by a league school. ASU also
won the cup in 1995.
ASU Growth & Achievement
ASU Athletics has it together when it comes to the classroom. Over 150
student-athletes were recognized in ceremonies this spring as members of
the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. The Athletic Director's Honor Roll
acknowledges those who have achieved a 3.00 GPA or better.
The graduation rate for ASU's student-athletes is 49 percent.
The need to keep ASU's athletic facilities up to date and competitive
has led to a multi-million dollar renovation to the football complex,
which began in July of 2001 and is slated to end sometime before the
2002 football season.
Also, installation of new scoreboards and a video replay board for the
football stadium is completed, while the Convocation Center has new
scoreboards and replay boards up and running for 2001-02 basketball
seasons. The replay board at the football stadium is located in the
south endzone next to the football complex, while two replay and
"hustle" boards have been installed in the Convocation Center for men's

The ASU campus continues to grow and expand each year. The new Fowler
Center opened in the Spring of 2001 at a cost of $15.9 million. The
Center is located adjacent to the Convocation Center, home to ASU
basketball (men and women), volleyball, and indoor track and field.
The campus also features new apartments on the north end of campus,
called Collegiate Park, adjacent to the Carl R. Reng Center. A new $28
million student center is under construction, and the Reng Center will
be renovated.
Several other projects have recently been finalized or are underway,
including the new Equine Center (across Stadium Blvd from Indian
Stadium), a women's soccer complex, new intramural fields, a new
Information and Technology Services Center, a new track and field
facility, and a multi-level parking garage adjacent to the Reng Center.
